Lagbus driver flogged mercilessly by soldier for danfo driver's offence in Lagos

A Lagbus driver, Idowu Kolawole, who was accused of putting the lives of his passengers and road users at risk with his rough driving by a soldier, was allegedly flogged mercilessly by the soldier.

According to eyewitnesses of the incident which happened in Marina, Lagos, the wrong driver was flogged,  as they disclosed that the soldier snatched a cane from some motor unionists in the area, which he used in flogging the driver. When begged by the passengers, he allegedly replied “Are the people in that Danfo bus not human beings?”

Christian Pastor jailed because he won't wed gay couple

A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, USA, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after refusing to marry gay couples, according to NBC. This comes shortly after the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision ruling that states must allow gay-marriage.

The Christian Pastor, 56-year-old Paul Horner, had his lawyer speak to reporters on his behalf.

“We are currently disputing the guilty verdict and I am confident my client will be a free man here shortly,” said attorney Tom Downey. “Horner was just using his best judgement according to his rights and religious freedom in this country.”

Governor Nasir El-Rufai sacks 20 Permanent Secretaries

Kaduna state Governor Nasir El Rufai announced yesterday through a press statement that he has sacked 20 permanent secretaries from Kaduna State civil service and has appointed new officials to fill some positions in his government.

“In line with its resolve to cut the cost of running government, the Kaduna State Government has announced the retirement of 20 permanent secretaries. This decision follows the streamlining of ministries in the state from 19 to a leaner 13, as part of efforts to free up resources to be used for providing schools, hospitals, roads and other public goods.
The government, which had at inception declared its determination to cut costs, drive efficiency and improve service delivery, is continuing the restructuring of its agencies. To ensure that the number of permanent secretaries is properly aligned with the new structure, there will be only 13 permanent secretaries for the 13 ministries." the statement read

Another Young Nigerian athlete drowns (photos)

Student-athlete, Oluwatoni Onikeku, 20, a student of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, died on Sunday July 12th while swimming with friends in the Deerfield River in Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Toni, who was an active member of the campus community, was a high jumper and sprinter for the track and field team, the River Hawks, at the university, where he earned several medals.

His family left Nigeria when Toni was 7 and have been living in Fitchburg for 13 years. He has been described as a well liked teammate, outstanding athlete, strong student, and an active member of Student-Athlete Advisory Council. May his soul resr in peace...

Rapper DMX jailed for 6 months

The rapper was jailed in Buffalo, New York yesterday July 14th for failing to comply with a family court ruling. He was asked by a court to pay back child support to one of his baby mamas but he didn't. When he appeared in court yesterday, a judge slapped him with a 6 months sentence and he was immediately locked up in Erie County Holding Center.

Unknown gunmen kill former OAU lecturer

A former lecturer at the Department of Agricultural - Economics, at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Dr. Adedeji Iyanda Adejobi, (pictured above) was murdered yesterday July 14th by unknown gunmen suspected to be hired assassins. Dr. Adejobi was killed in a shootout along with a security man at Madomo road Ile - Ife. Police are now investigating his death. May his soul rest in peace.

Evil mum who caged her son before starving & beating him to death dies in prison

Magdalena Luczak, the woman who tortured her 4 year old son Daniel Pelka for a period of time, and eventually killed him, has died in prison. Magdalena, 29, who subjected her son to 'incomprehensible cruelty' was found unresponsive in her cell at HMP Foston Hall in Derby at around 7.15am yesterday July 14th. Paramedics attended to her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAD! 17yr old Nigerian schooling in UK drowns in Canada while on school trip

A 17 year old Nigerian boy, Jamal Ottun, a student of Wallington County Grammar School in South London drowned while swimming with his school mates at the Shawnigan lake on Vancouver Island, Canada on Sunday July 12th. According to reports, the talented sportsman was in Canada with his school's Rugby team for a Rugby tour when the sad incident happened. He had gone swimming with his team mates when he drowned. Efforts to revive him afterwards failed. He was his father's only son.

A Beninoise teenager, 17-year-old Abiodun Ojo, who killed her husband, Jimoh, in the Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos State, said she poisoned her husband because she hated him.

Abiodun, during her interview blamed her father for forcing her to marry Jimoh, who she said never took care of her.

She said she had run away from the deceased 3 times, and was sent back by her father, who she described as the architect of her problem.

Abiodun had been handed over to Jimoh as wife by her father to stop her from marrying her boyfriend.

Lightning strikes Mum holding 2 year old

A New Hampshire mother and her 2-year-old son who were struck by lightning last week have lived to tell about the incident.

On Tuesday, Kelly Bell and her son Logan headed outside after a thunderstorm, but it turned out the weather wasn’t quite over. “I thought the thunder had passed, it had been 30 minutes since we’d seen anything, so we went outside to see the rain because we like to look at it,” Bell tells Yahoo Parenting. “I said ‘Hey Bubba, look at the rain,’ and then next thing I knew I woke up on the floor.”
Bell says the lightning struck a tree, and then traveled along a metal dog lead, which was connected from the tree to their porch.

British soldier who raped a 6yr old girl in her home in Austria while drunk is jailed for 9 years

A British soldier has been jailed for nine years for drunkenly raping a six-year-old girl in her bedroom while stationed on an adventure course with his unit. Craig Stormey, 30, was on an alpine skiing course with the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery in the Stubai Valley, Austria, when the horrific assault took place.

Today Judge Norbert Hofer said it was 'impossible' to find an appropriate punishment given the severity of the attack and ranked it among the 'worst kind of abuse of a child's physical well-being'.

5000 naked people to protest in Nairobi ahead of Pres. Obama's visit

Members of the Republican Liberty Party have threatened to mobilize “approximately 5,000 totally naked men and women to protest over Obama’s open and aggressive support for homosexuality”.

In a letter addressed to the Administration Police Commandant, the party, together with its 5,000 naked Kenyans are set to throng the streets of Nairobi on 22nd and 23rd of this month is protest of growing support for homosexuality.

Obama’s planned visit to Kenya has created a huge hype among Kenyan’s of all walks of life. However, his stand on homosexuality has sharply divided the nation with the majority of them warning against pro-gay rhetoric in a country that prides itself for being conservative regarding the topic of marriage.
